Nearly three years after announcing a new partnership, Google and ADT released a new home security system customers can install themselves and hook up to their Nest smart home devices.
This new do-it-yourself security system is called ADT Self Setup(Opens in a new window), and it combines ADT's security hardware with Google's range of Nest smart home products.
In order for the security system to work, it requires an ADT Smart Home Hub, but ADT also offers optional door/window sensors, pet-friendly motion sensors, a smoke detector, temperature/water sensor, a keypad, and a keychain remote. On Google's side, it's possible to link up with the Nest Doorbell, Mini, Hub, and Hub Max, as well as the indoor and outdoor cameras, Thermostat, and Wifi.
The Smart Home Hub is the main control point for the system, but you can access features and tweak settings via a linked Nest device or through the ADT+ app(Opens in a new window). That app can also be used to get alerts, set routines and automations, and control your Nest devices.
As for pricing, ADT is selling just the Smart Home Hub for $179.99(Opens in a new window). There's a Starter package which adds a Google Nest Doorbell (battery), four door/window sensors, and two motion sensors for $479.99(Opens in a new window). And finally, there's a Premium package which adds a second-generation Google Nest Hub on top of what is included in the Starter package, which takes the price up to $579.98(Opens in a new window). ADT is knocking $100 off each of those prices until April 3.
As well as the kit mentioned above, ADT includes an ADT yard sign and pack of window stickers so anyone approaching your house knows it's protected. There's also smart monitoring to consider. Those prices
