Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah Interview: Ms. Marvel
When Ms. Marvel premieres June 8 on Disney+, the world will finally meet Kamala Khan and learn just how big a Marvel fan she is. The Pakistani-American teenager, brought to live-action glory by newcomer Iman Vellani, is a comic book enthusiast who daydreams about her cosplay for AvengerCon before learning she is a superhero in her own right.
The New Jersey native is one of the freshest faces in Marvel's Phase Four lineup, and she'll soon follow up her small screen debut in Ms. Marvel with a big screen entrance in 2023's The Marvels. In the meantime, her growing pains on the new series can be likened to those of Peter Parker in Jon Watt's Homecoming trilogy. But Kamala has her own unique story to tell, and not just because she's Marvel's first Muslim superhero.

Screen Rant spoke to Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who directed episodes 1 and 6 in addition to executive producing the series, about what makes Kamala Khan the ultimate Avengers fan and how they've transferred their own love of comics to their work on the upcoming Batgirl film as well.
Screen Rant: I know Iman's casting was unanimous. Were you guys part of that process? What went through your mind when you saw her audition?
Bilall Fallah: We saw the casting video, and it [clicked]. It was like she's destined to be Kamala Kahn. Her life story is really parallel with Kamala Khan's. Iman is a Pakistani girl from Canada and also between those two worlds, but she's also a big Marvel fan. She's an expert; she knows everything.
