Redfall, Arkane Studios’ co-op, squad -based vampire shooter, was released a year ago, and quickly panned as broken and undercooked. Despite vowing to work on the issues, and owing players who bought their $100 deluxe edition two promised post-launch heroes, some are still waiting for what they were promised for their purchase.
According to a new report from Kotaku, those who bought the deluxe edition Have not received the promised DLC that they had spent money on by buying the deluxe edition over the $70 standard edition. The Bite Back edition is actually still on sale on Xbox, Steam and the Microsoft Store, but there hasn’t been a peep since on the two promised post-launch heroes. There was some hope that they might materialize around Halloween, but this never happened. The report quotes a player who goes by Obvious, saying “Some people think they might be working on it behind the scenes for another big release at some point, but I’m starting to lose hope in that”, with many having stopped playing months ago.
Arkane and Microsoft had responded to the game’s release issues, vowing to work on it and do better. Phil Spencer even apologized for the launch issues, and even conceded that delaying the game might not have resulted in much of a different outcome, telling Kinda Funny that “the game isn’t realizing the creative vision that is had for its players”. Arkane did work on the game and has improved it to a point, adding 60 fps, stability, and more, but post-launch DLC has not materialized. It is clear that the team had planned on its live service game to get DLC down the line. With Steam concurrent players around 50, as Kotaku cites, despite promises that the Arkane team was working on future content, it's hard to believe.
