Sometimes a horror prequel can be unnecessary, as fans feel that they have enough details, information, and backstory in order to enjoy their favorite movies and franchises. But other times, fans love spending time with these characters and worlds so much that it's hard not to wish that there was a movie about how it all began.
From '90s slasher movies where prequels would make a big splash to a more recent critically acclaimed one-off movie about an interesting curse, there are several horror movies that are just begging for a prequel.
5 Worst Haunted House Movies
With Scream being one of the most popular horror franchises ever, it would be fascinating to watch a prequel movie about Billy Loomis's dad having an affair with Maureen Prescott. This prequel would work well since the Scream movies aren't scary and this film wouldn't have to be super terrifying, either.
This prequel would give fans more backstory and context about why Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) wanted to become Ghostface, and audiences could also learn more about a younger Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her family life before the horrors of the 1996 movie happened. The best Scream movies are set in Woodsboro so no one would mind spending more time in this small town, either.
As a '90s horror movie that is still good, I Know What You Did Last Summer has an entertaining sequel, and a prequel would be a great idea as well. While fans find out that Ben Willis (Muse Watson) is the one behind the stalking, scares, and murders, no one knows that much about him and his life before this.
While Ben Willis isn't one of the worst horror movie villains, he isn't one of the most unforgettable, either, and a prequel movie would give him more of a place in horror history.
