This is the only non-violent way to tame the creature, but Fish Baskets take a while to fill completely, so this process can take a long time. Furthermore, you have to do this multiple times to fully tame a Shadowmane, meaning you'll have to find it sleeping soundly more than once.
The Amargasaurus is a spined dinosaur that you can only tame by hunting with it while it is still a wild animal. Obviously, this raises some issues, as the Amargasaurus will attack you on sight if it perceives you as an enemy.
