Valve's dominance over the PC gaming market is no secret. Last month, the number of concurrent players on Steam crossed 32 million, out of which over 10 million were in-game at that time. This was the most amount of people who logged on to Steam since its launch almost two decades ago. Though part of this growth could be attributed to the launch of its Steam Deck console which has been well-received by many gamers. In any case, it appears 2022 has been another promising year for Valve's platform.

According to the company's «Steam Year In Review 2022» report, its seasonal sales have been among the biggest contributors to the platform's success in the year. During its 2022 Steam autumn sale, Valve notes that 1.4 million accounts made purchases for the first time on the store, a 27% jump from last year's autumn sale. This means about 138 users made a purchase every minute every day for a week. Interestingly, the trend appeared to be similar across the year as Steam recorded 83,000 first-time purchasers per day on average in 2022.
The report further states that its growth was fueled by a mix of established players and newcomers with titles like Call of Duty, Lost Ark, and Elden Ring topping the list of most-played Steam games during 2022.
