Some of the plot threads in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild aren't fully resolved after players defeat Calamity Ganon, and the upcoming sequel, BOTW 2, has the opportunity to show what happened with them. BOTW is a massive game with many secrets that raise questions about its lore, history, and future. There are a lot of different interwoven stories that come along with them, and since it looks like BOTW 2 will be even bigger than the first game, there's plenty of room for it to close out some of BOTW's open-ended storylines.
The main plot of Breath of the Wild is the quest to slay Calamity Ganon, who caused the Great Calamity 100 years prior to the start of the game. Along the way, players will contend with the ancient and oftentimes hostile machinery that dots the land, such as the Guardians that Calamity Ganon took over before BOTW begins, as well as the shrines and Divine Beasts. Although most of Hyrule has long since recovered from the events of the past, Ganon's influence still exists in the form of Malice, a malignant ooze that will harm Link if he touches it. The game contains uncountable small details and lore hints that players can find on their journey to save Princess Zelda and end the threat of Calamity Ganon once and for all, and some of them have mysterious implications.
