The YouTube Premium individual subscription has quietly increased in price by $2 in the US, meaning it now costs $13.99 per month(Opens in a new window).
The price increase was first spotted by 9To5Google(Opens in a new window), as YouTube has yet to make an official announcement regarding the change. It's worse if you decide to subscribe via the iOS app as the monthly price is now $18.99.
Until YouTube makes the price hike official, it's unclear how this will impact existing subscribers. Will they get to retain their existing price as long as they keep subscribing? YouTube Music Premium is also increasing in price from $9.99 to $10.99, which helps make YouTube Premium look like good value when you consider it includes access to the audio service.
In return for $13.99 per month, YouTube Premium removes the ads, allows videos to be downloaded, unlocks access to Music Premium, and allows video background play on mobile devices even if you open another app.
This price hike won't come as a big surprise to anyone who has a few other video streaming subscriptions. Earlier this week Peacock announced a price rise, with Disney+, Netflix, Apple TV+, and ESPN+ all announcing price increases last year. YouTube Premium's Family Plan also experienced a $5 per month increase last October.
