Iain Armitage wants to know what happens when Young Sheldon hits the end of its timeline as a The Big Bang Theory prequel series. The CBS family comedy has been on the air for five seasons now. In the first two years after its debut in 2017, Young Sheldon aired back-to-back with its parent show. Ever since The Big Bang Theory wrapped up in 2019, however, Young Sheldon has been standing on its own, and enjoying consistent growth in popularity up to the current season 5.
Set roughly three decades before The Big Bang Theory's timeline, Young Sheldon focuses on the child version of Sheldon Cooper as he lives out his childhood years in Texas with his family. Instead of a straight sitcom, Young Sheldon has become more of a family dramedy as it starts taking on more mature narratives, such as Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) accidentally falling pregnant. Despite not being as popular as its parent nerd-centric sitcom, Young Sheldon is currently CBS' highest-rated comedy. But while the network wants to keep it on the air for as long as possible, the spin-off has an established timeline thanks toThe Big Bang Theory.
