Mary was the first member of the Cooper family who appeared in The Big Bang Theory. Since her initial cameo in the sitcom's first season, she regularly popped up throughout the next 12 years of the show's run. Sheldon's mom was established as a devout Christian who had a soft spot for the socially-inept genius. Over time, she also developed her own dynamic with the rest of the Pasadena gang. Meanwhile, George never appeared on The Big Bang Theory because he was already dead by the time the geek-centric sitcom started. However, thanks to Mary and Sheldon's stories, he was branded as a bad dad who didn't do anything but drink and lounge around.
