The Wolf Among Us 2 launches sometime next year from the all-new Telltale that formed in 2019 but if you don't find the time in the next year to try the first game out, it's designed a recap into the first episode that'll bring you up to speed.
"We strive to design our narratives so they can stand on their own," CEO Jamie Ottilie said (thanks, IGN). "We think the opening of the first episode sets things up in such a way that the player understands how the characters got where they are now."

However, while you can skip the first and dive right in, Ottilie would prefer you didn't. In fact, he encourages players to go back and try the first, but if you've played it and don't want to retread your steps, then episode one should bring you back up to speed in no time. Like with the original, The Wolf Among Us 2 will be released episodically with the first coming next year.
"There's something about building anticipation and allowing players to speculate what might happen next that is an important part of both good storytelling and Telltale games," Ottilie continued. "When done well, like some of the recent limited series we've seen on streaming channels these last few years, you can capture the collective imagination and moment in culture."
Last month, we got our first look at The Wolf Among Us 2, featuring a look at Bigby in anger management counselling, discussing an arrest where he went full werewolf. Perhaps we'll see events recounted in these sessions throughout the first episode, offering old players a recap and new players a bit of backstory to this world.
