Telltale Games' highly-anticipated title The Wolf Among Us 2 can apparently be understood by those who did not play the first game. The original five-part mystery drama, a prequel to the comic book series Fables, follows Fabletown sheriff Bigby Wolf as he investigates a string of murders throughout the fairy tale community. A Wolf Among Us 2 reveal trailer was revealed back in 2019, with the next chapter set for release in 2023.
While the game's announcement was followed by a period of silence, Telltale Games recently opened up about The Wolf Among Us 2. Taking place around six months after the conclusion of the first title, presumably during the winter months, the storybook sequel is expected to be another interactive episodic mystery drama. Bigby Wolf is confirmed to return as the protagonist of The Wolf Among Us 2, and it has been theorized that Snow White will also make a return as an ally after being mentioned in a trailer. There will be obvious connections between the stories of first game and Wolf Among Us 2, though it seems that newcomers will not be forced to play the first game before experiencing the second.

As reported by IGN, new players will apparently be able to understand The Wolf Among Us 2 without playing through the first story. The news comes from an Edge interview with Telltale CEO Jamie Ottilie, who reveals that the upcoming sequel is written to stand on its own. The opening of The Wolf Among Us 2's first episode is specifically written so that every player, regardless of any prior knowledge about the events in the series, will understand how each character got to where they are at the start of the sequel.
