Dune: Part 1 originally ended at a later point in the story, according to the production team. Dune: Part 1 is an adaptation of the first half of author Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel, a dense body of work that director Denis Villeneuve decided to split into two parts in order to capture as much of it as possible for the big screen. Villeneuve is set to begin production on Dune: Part 2 soon, which is aiming for release in October 2023.
Dune stars Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, and Zendaya, most of whom are expected to return for Dune: Part 2. The immense film recently swept most of the technical categories at the 2022 Oscars, including Best VFX, Editing, Cinematography, Sound, Original Score, and Production Design. Villeneuve was not nominated for his contributions as the director of Dune, a notable snub given the number of wins the film took home.
