Dragon's Dogma 2 will let you permanently kill off NPCs, unlike the first game which had them respawn and recover from death after a week of in-game time.
The first Dragon's Dogma already has a great reputation for its roleplaying mechanics and emergent gameplay that made your actions have consequences, but it looks like Dragon's Dogma 2 is going to be taking things even further. We've seen plenty of examples of this since the game was revealed, such as how the environment can take out enemies in one hit if used carefully, but it turns out that death is coming for everyone this time around.
In the original Dragon's Dogma, the player could choose to kill NPCs if they were all about that chaotic life and wanted to see the world burn. This isn't the case in Dragon's Dogma 2, though. As highlighted by Twitter user MrMcFacepunch and originally reported by 4gamer (who also finally confirmed that the food used in the game is actually real and not just a detailed animation), non-playable characters can actually be fully killed off this time around if the player chooses, although there are systems in place to bring them back.
During the interview, Dragon Dogma 2's director, Hideaki Itsuno, is asked about the presence of a morgue in one of the game's towns. In response, Itsuno reveals that when NPCs die, they'll be transported to the morgue for a few in-game days before being buried and completely removed from the world.
This can seemingly happen to every NPC in the game, including ones that are important to the main quest. If you get cold feet, though, you can choose to resurrect them from the morgue using the "Dragon's Heartbeat" item, which will restore them back to life and seemingly allow you to carry on with your adventures.
