During a recent interview with The Wrap, co-creator Ashley Lyle finally offered an update on the current status of the highly-anticipated third season, which got delayed to last year’s Hollywood strikes.
Lyle teased that fans should expect to see a bit of similarity between Yellowjackets Season 3 and the first installment in terms of its vibe. In addition, Misty actor Samantha Hanratty also recently confirmed that the main cast are doing contract “renegotiations right now” with the network.
“We’re in the midst of [writing] right now. I don’t want to give too much away. I always get in trouble,” she said. “I will say we see Season 3 as a little bit of a return to Season 1 in terms of the vibe, though. All I will say is that the girls have been out there for awhile and they’re thriving.”
“Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story, and coming-of-age drama, it tells the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness,” reads the series’ synopsis. “The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.”
Yellowjackets is created and executive produced by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. It stars Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Steven Krueger, and Warren Kole. Season 2 also featured the introduction of Lauren Ambrose as adult Van Palmer, Simone Kessell as adult Lottie, and Elijah Wood as citizen detective Walter.
