Many players have eagerly anticipated developer Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, the sequel to 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. This anticipation only makes sense, as the original Hellblade became a hit in large part due to its distinct, effective portrayal of mental health. But considering the sequel’s initial announcement occurred all the way back in 2019, many likely feel especially eager to find out when it will finally come out. Fortunately, Ninja Theory treated fans to a new Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase that revealed a 2024 release window for the title. Additionally, we now know that Hellblade 2 will come to Game Pass on the day of its release.
The trailer lasts a little over four minutes, so Hellblade fans have no shortage of new footage to enjoy. Having said that, the vast majority of that runtime consists of two cinematics, with a short portion of slow-walking gameplay partway through. Given that much of Hellblade’s appeal lies in its story and themes, however, many fans likely won’t mind this at all. Even so, various YouTube comments have still criticized the lack of gameplay, suggesting the response has proven far from uniform.
The description for the official Xbox YouTube account’s upload of the trailer states that it is “best viewed wearing headphones,” and it’s not hard to see why. The various voices in Senua’s mind make for an interesting listening experience that gives plenty of insight into her headspace.
