Following the release of Xbox's next-gen systems, the publisher has certainly had its hands full. While the Xbox Series X/S has received plenty of system updates, both consoles continue to struggle to stay in stock a full year after the initial release. However, for the players that have managed to require either Xbox console, a new feature will soon be rolling out that should help with user accessibility.
A certain trend that has become more prominent within the gaming community as of late is controller mapping. Each player responds differently depending on whatever system they are using. In fact, a number of Japanese studios will sometimes program button prompts in a different order that Western players aren't always accustomed to. While button remapping is featured with both Xbox One and Xbox Series X controllers, the share button has remained untouched, until now.
How Xbox Controllers Evolved From the Original Console to Series X
Over on Twitter, an engineering lead for Xbox named Eden Marie, announced that Xbox Alpha Insiders will be able to remap the Xbox Series X controller's share button to a variety of custom actions, such as Quick Settings and accessibility options, to name a few examples. Typically, the share button on the Xbox Series X controller is used to efficiently share gameplay clips and screenshots on social media platforms.
Right now, this update is meant for Xbox Alpha Insiders only, but it's likely that if this new feature goes well, it will release publicly at some point in the future.
