announced its returns on January 23, 2025. The showcase will feature some of the company’s most anticipated titles, as well as a surprise mystery game.
The upcoming Xbox Developer Direct is on Thursday, January 23 at 10 A.M. PT / 1 P.M. ET. It will provide a new look at a trio of previously revealed titles, including Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Each “in-depth look” will be presented by the creators as they discuss its development.
The announcement doesn’t give many clues as to what the brand new game could be. The wording makes it seem like this will be a newly revealed game from one of its studios. So, games like Fable or Gears of War: E-Day may be out the question. However, one rumor that has been circling around is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake developed in collaboration with Bethesda and Virtuos. That is just a rumor though, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
Doom: The Dark Ages was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase last year. Developed by id Software, it is the prequel to the modern Doom story beginning with 2016’s release. It will tell the “origin story of the Doom Slayer’s rage.”
Compulsion Games revealed South of Midnight back in 2023. From the makers of Contrast and We Happy Few, their next adventure is a third person action game set in the American Deep South. Its protagonist Hazel will fight creatures based on Southern Folklore.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was revealed in 2024 with an impressive trailer. Even more impressive is its star studded cast which includes Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Andy Serkis (The Planet of the Apes films), Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI), and Jennifer English (Baldur’s Gate 3).
