X-Men Officially Destroys One of Marvel's Most Powerful Magic Weapons

The X-Men have just lost their most powerful magical weapon. Illyana Rasputin is easily one of the most powerful mutants in existence. Ironically, that's not especially because of her mutant power of teleportation; rather, it's because Magik is the Sorcerer Supreme of Limbo, a Hell Dimension, and thus wields all its power. She's even defeated Doctor Strange in a magical duel, giving a sense of just how skilled she really is.
The Soulsword is one of the most powerful magical artifacts in existence. It was created by the demon Belasco using fragments of Magik's own soul, and whoever uses this eldritch blade is the rightful ruler of Limbo. The Soulsword is principally designed for use against mystical and magical opponents, with Illyana striking demonic enemies dead with a single slash, but it is also effective against those who are intangible — as both Kitty Pryde and Vision have learned to their cost. When Magik strikes a person with the Soulsword, any spell or enchantment in place upon them is broken; Magik was even able to cut off Cyttorak's hold on her brother Colossus with one swipe of her blade.

Now, in New Mutants #25 — by Vita Ayala, Rod Reis, Jan Duursema, Ruth Redmond, and Travis Lanham — the Soulsword has been destroyed. The demon S'ym leads an uprising against Magik, armed with a mystical weapon of his own. Magik, naturally, responds by launching an attack on S'ym, and is horrified when the Soulsword is shattered. Her greatest weapon is destroyed in an instant, and Magik is forced to flee with her allies.
It's impossible to say what the consequences of the Soulsword's destruction will be.
