Among the projects done by World of Warcraft fans, maps of other locations done in the style of the in-game Azeroth world maps are among the most popular. One World of Warcraft fan has crossed the streams between the MMO titan and FromSoftware’s Elden Ring by making one such world map of The Lands Between.
The World of Warcraft crossover map was made by artist and game designer Mario Cayuelas Ruiz, known on the internet as AZA. The mapping project itself was created using Adobe Photoshop, practice, and a lot of patience.

AZA’s map of The Lands Between contains incredible levels of detail. While many similar World of Warcraft-style maps use assets and themes from Classic WoW, his share the vibrancy and color of later maps, like those found in Legion and Battle for Azeroth. The map uses many original assets, giving it a truly unique feel. Its style is both definitively World of Warcraft while being easily-recognizable as the world map from Elden Ring.
A talented level designer, AZA has spearheaded several projects in the past, including a multiplayer map for Unreal Tournament and multiple 3D platformer puzzle games. He also has experience with mapmaking in the World of Warcraft style. He created maps of several regions in Spain, including his hometown Murcia, and spearheaded an expansive World of Warcraft fan expansion project, which includes several unofficial maps of his interpretation of the Ethereal homeworld of K’aresh.
As one might imagine, both World of Warcraft and Elden Ring fans were instantly charmed by AZA’s map. Some fans wished there was a way to replace the in-game map with his version, and now want to see iconic World of Warcraft
