Windows 12 in 2024? Intel Thinks So

Intel added fuel to the fire regarding rumors that Microsoft is planning a 2024 release for the next version of Windows.

As PCGamer reports, Intel's chief financial officer Dave Zinsner held an interview with Citi last month and was asked about the company's surprise market share gaines recently. As part of his response, Zinsner suggested that a new version of Windows is releasing next year:

"We actually think '24 is going to be a pretty good year for client, in particular, because of the Windows refresh. And we still think that the installed base is pretty old and does require a refresh and we think next year maybe the start of that, given the Windows catalyst. So we're optimistic about how things will play out beginning in '24."

Windows 12 isn't mentioned specifically, but as Windows Central points out, "Windows refresh" was the termed used to describe Windows 11 before it was officially announced.

We've been hearing rumors that Windows 12 is releasing in 2024 since the middle of last year. However, more recently it has come to light that Microsoft may be adding a subscription element to its next operating system. References to subscription "edition," "type," and "status" were found in a configuration file of a pre-release build in the Canary channel. If true, we could all soon be paying a monthly charge to use Windows alongside other Microsoft premium services such as OneDrive.
