Things are going to get messy in .
With Wicked having been released in November 2024, many fans of the popular Broadway musical are now eagerly awaiting what the sequel, Wicked: For Good, has in store for them when it hits theaters later this year.
Speaking with Variety, director Jon M. Chu vaguely hinted that Wicked: For Good is going to get “messy.”
While Chu didn’t elaborate further, the second half of the two-part Wicked adaptation is expected to have a darker and more complex tone. Regarding if he thinks audiences will be open to the change, Chu said, “I think if they’re following the emotions of this movie. They’ll walk with us.”
Ariana Grande plays Galinda/Glinda in Wicked. Teasing what’s to come in the sequel, Grande spoke about the “For Good” musical number and the scenes immediately surrounding it.
“The scene that leads up to it — and afterward — is quite a meal,” she said. “I do remember, at a point, leaving my body and hovering for, like, the whole week.”
“For Good” is one of the final songs in the Wicked musical. The duet between Glinda and Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo) serves as a moment for both characters to express what their friendship means to one another as they reflect on all that has happened between the two of them.
Erivo said that filming the “For Good” sequence was “a lot.”
Both Wicked movies also star Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Bowen Yang as Pfannee.
While still playing in many theaters across the United States, Wicked is now available to rent or purchase on digital streaming outlets such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and more. Wicked: For Good arrives on November 21, 2025, from Universal Pictures.
