Wayfinder officially entered Early Access on PC and PlayStation yesterday, and the start was met with server issues and instability, which the team attempted to stabilize until they could apply better fixes. Airship Syndicate has acknowledged the issues and has begun outlining what’s next.
When it comes to a launch, whether Early Access or a full launch, if you’ve been playing MMOs or any other type of live service titles, then even the term “launch” brings up a certain series of memories and mood. That said, this is an early access title, so it's important to remember that Wayfinder is still under development. So it is fair that some things are broken, although it is clear from previous announcements and reveals that the Airship Syndicate team wanted and planned to have an opening that let people really enjoy the content that is there.
Yesterday, as soon as feedback started rolling in about the crashes and server issues, the team began a series of updates and work to fix what they could. Maintenance took more time than expected, with the team eventually deciding to implement reduced capacity on the servers in order to at least have enough resources to support some players in Evenor.
“Wayfinders, we appreciate your patience as we continue to monitor and fix server issues. We have implemented some player limits to ensure stability which may result in the error of «Maximum player capacity is reached, please try again later». Should you receive this message we ask that you wait a few minutes and try again.”
This server cap continued in place overnight, to both help keep things more stable and let the team keep analyzing the issues.
