The young actor who played Billy Maximoff in WandaVision has responded to rumors that the MCU has recast him. WandaVision was the first official entry in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as being the first of Disney+'s many series spinning off various Marvel characters. The series, which is a pastiche of sitcoms throughout the years, followed Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) as she created a fantasy world inside a bubble around the town of Westview, New Jersey. Billy (Julian Hillard) has Scarlet Witch's force field powers and Tommy (Jett Klyne) has Quicksilver's superspeed. The superpowered twins have been confirmed to be reappearing in the MCU in the upcoming film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will be picking up directly after the stories established in Spider-Man: No Way Home and WandaVision. Although the characters have been confirmed, the actors have not, and rumors have been swirling that the role of an older Billy has been filled by teen star Joshua Bassett, who stars in the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and has achieved notoriety by inspiring the hit Olivia Rodrigo breakup song «Driver's License.»
