As part of the Triple-I Initiative, Vampire Survivors pulled back the curtain on its fourth paid expansion, Operation Guns, a crossover DLC with Konami's Contra series. The upcoming expansion for Vampire Survivors will launch on May 9, including 11 new characters, 22 new weapons, and two stages for players to experience.
The news of Operation Guns' release came four months after Vampire Survivors announced its third DLC and first crossover expansion, Emergency Meeting. As a crossover expansion with Among Us, Emergency Meeting surprised players of both indie games. The DLC included the Polus Replica stage, the ability to play as nine characters from Innersloth's hit indie title, including a Crewmate and an Impostor, and 15 weapons to choose from. Emergency Meeting arrived first on PC and Xbox consoles in December 2023, with releases on Switch and mobile devices weeks later.
Following the release of Emergency Meeting, Vampire Survivors laid out its roadmap for 2024, which included more free updates and crossover plans. Among the crossover plans was the introduction of the game's fourth expansion, Operation Guns, which will launch on May 9 on all available platforms, with a planned PS4 and PS5 release in the summer to coincide with the game's launch on Sony's consoles. The Operation Guns DLC will cost $2.49, which matches the MSRP of the Emergency Meeting DLC. According to the Vampire Survivors Steam page, the Operation Guns DLC will include 11 playable characters from the Contra series, such as Bill Rizer, Lance Bean, Sheena Etranzi, and Lucia. The expansion will give players 22 new weapons to pick from, 13 music tracks, a large stage, and a bonus stage.
The Operation Guns DLC will include a new Adventure set across six chapters. However, the Vampire Survivors development team stated that the expansion's weapons would have slightly lower damage output to emulate the difficulty of the Contra series to some extent.
