Riot Games has announced that its free to play 5v5 tactical shooter VALORANT is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Furthermore, the developer confirmed that there will be a limited beta on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, starting from June 14th. The beta will initially be available in e United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, and Japan, and those interested in playing should register on the official website, http://www.beta.playvalorant.com/.
“When exploring whether to bring VALORANT to additional platforms, we knew we had to be able to offer the same uncompromising, competitive experience that we’ve provided to PC players for years: a precise, team-based, tactical shooter,” said Arnar Gylfason, Production Director of VALORANT at Riot Games. “We were adamant that VALORANT’s core, competitive gameplay must feel natural on a controller; and if we couldn’t deliver on that gameplay promise we had to be prepared to walk away from it. We hope we nailed it, but ultimately, our players will have the final say.”
As mentioned in the quote above, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of VALORANT have been built with console specific features in mind. Riot Games has stated the console versions will have parity with the PC version of the game, including patches, new agents, new maps, and additional premium content.
VALORANT was first fully released in June 2020 for PC. The game broke records on Twitch when it entered into closed beta back in April 2020, with 1.7 million concurrent viewers, however, a lot of this would have been down to Riot Games using Twitch as a direct marketing tactic at the time. The only way to gain access to the beta was to watch a stream of someone else playing the game and get a code, something that was taken away with the full release of VALORANT.
