UK retailer Argos is cancelling some PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Edition console pre-orders.
According to a growing number of X users, Argos began sending out emails on Monday informing customers that pre-orders which had previously been confirmed via email would no longer be fulfilled.
“We’re very sorry to inform you that we’re unable to fulfil your PS5 30th Anniversary Edition pre-order,” the email reads.
“We will automatically process a refund back to your original payment method. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.”
An Argos spokesperson has confirmed to VGC that some customers have had their pre-orders cancelled.
“We saw huge demand for the PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Limited Edition console and unfortunately had to cancel some orders, after they were processed incorrectly,” they said. “We have contacted the customers affected to tell them how sorry we are for the disappointment this has caused and confirm they will receive a full refund.”
It’s unclear how widespread the issue is, but an Argos support worker reportedly told one affected customer there was a “mass cancellation” of pre-orders. VGC has contacted Argos for comment.
PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary Collection, which includes grey PS5 Digital and PS5 Pro consoles, was announced last month.
Pre-orders for the sought-after consoles were snapped up quickly, and many are now being listed by resellers at huge markups ahead of their release next month.
