Ubisoft apologises for unauthorised use of flag in Assassin’s Creed Shadows art
Ubisoft has apologised for the unauthorised use of a historical re-enactment group’s flag in Assassin’s Creed Shadows concept art.
As reported by Siliconera, the flag in question belongs to the Sekigahara Teppo-tai (or Sekigahara gun group) infantryman re-enactment group.
It featured in two pieces of concept art for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and also appears in the physical artbook included with the collector’s edition of the game.
“The art in question will not be used or distributed any further beyond this date, except for being included in the artbook in the Collector’s Edition,” Ubisoft Japan said in a post on X.
“We deeply apologise for this matter.”
Ubisoft unveiled Assassin’s Creed Shadows in May (the project was previously referred to as Codename Red) and it published a 13-minute gameplay walkthrough video last month.
Taking place in 16th century Japan and starring dual protagonists, the game is being made by Assassin’s Creed Odyssey developer Ubisoft Quebec and has the same creative director.
It will begin what Ubisoft is calling “period three” for the franchise, which has sold over 200 million copies since it launched in 2007, according to the company.
The Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date is November 15, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Mac and Amazon Luna.
