Over 30 years since the original Top Gun was released, Top Gun 2 sees Tom Cruise's Captain Mitchell return to action as he is tasked with preparing a new generation of pilots for an impossible mission. Much like Daniel Craig's Bond does in No Time To Die, Maverick proves that he still has a trick or two to teach the young recruits, who are played by Top Gun: Maverick's new cast.
Top Gun: Maverick and No Time To Die share several similarities. The storylines for both movies are based on the lead characters trying to save the world despite the odds being stacked against them, and both Maverick and Bond are veterans among fresh talent. But although there are a number of parallels between them, the movies end in significantly different ways, which works perfectly for both Top Gun: Maverick and No Time To Die.

No Time To Die's best decision was to kill James Bond, something Top Gun 2 almost did to Captain Mitchell but avoided at the last moment. Maverick sacrifices himself to save his reluctant ally Bradley «Rooster» Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of his deceased best friend Nick «Goose» Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards). Just as things look bleak for Maverick, Rooster returns the favor by defying orders and rescuing Maverick from an enemy gunship. It's a defining moment in Top Gun: Maverick,that both improves Goose's Top Gun death and wraps up Rooster's character arc by proving to Maverick that he forgives him.
