The No Time To Die Blofeld cameo seemed to waste the 007 franchise favorite, the scene secretly served an important purpose for future outings of the James Bond series. Whether Bond 26’s 007 is Tom Hardy or Regé-Jean Page, the suave super-spy will have a hard act to follow. No Time To Die, Daniel Craig’s James Bond swan song, was a critical hit that also landed well with audiences when the much-delayed movie finally arrived in 2021.
However, despite its positive reception, No Time To Die was not without its flaws. Craig’s final Bond movie criminally under-utilized supporting stars like Ana De Armas, an issue that was exacerbated by No Time To Die’s lengthy runtime. Among the characters that No Time To Die’s nearly three-hour story had no time for was the fan-favorite villain Blofeld.

Previously played by Christoph Waltz in Spectre, Bond’s iconic nemesis Blofeld was one of the most highly hyped characters to appear in No Time To Die. However, the villain seemed entirely redundant in his brief cameo, only appearing so he could die in short order when 007 unknowingly infected him with Safin’s killer nanobots. The scene felt particularly pointless when the previous movie revealed that Blofeld and Bond shared a long personal history together, leading a lot of people to assume that Waltz’s villain could potentially turn out to be the movie’s main antagonist. However, this did mean that he was no longer a loose end from the Craig era, so the next 007 movies can start without any villains from the earlier outings unaccounted for.
