Publisher 3goo has announced an official release date for the return of the cult fighting sequel The Rumble Fish 2 — Dimps’ dystopian scrapper will launch on PC and console platforms December 8.
As we’ve previously reported, The Rumble Fish 2 is a latter-day 2D fighter in the vein of precision examples such as Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. The Rumble Fish franchise was rarely seen outside of its native Japan and, coming along so late in the advent of 3D fighters, remained in relative obscurity outside of the more dedicated fighting game fans.
This new re-release will represent the first official global release for the little-known slugfest, which depicts the tale of a gathering of off-the-wall characters, duking it out in a world devastated by the aftermath of capitalism and corporate greed. The series is renowned for its charismatic roster, boisterous audio, and trademark “S.M.A.” (Smooth Model Animation) visual style.
In addition to the release date, 3goo has also announced a physical collector’s edition, which is currently only scheduled for release in Japan. This set contains a hard copy of The Rumble Fish 2, along with an artbook, soundtrack CD, strategy guide, and three additional DLC characters. It also contains a digital download of the original game, which is now exclusive to the colllector’s edition. 3goo has suggested that the collector’s edition will be released in the west at a later date.
The Rumble Fish 2 launches December 8 on PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
