Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak has been revealed as the next free Epic Games Store title.
Developed by Blackbird Interactive and published by Gearbox, the ground-based RTS game is a prequel to the classic Homeworld games.
Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak will be free to claim from Epic’s PC marketplace from August 24-31.
It will replace retro platformer Dodo Peak, and Black Book, a narrative-driven RPG with card-based combat, which are now free to claim until August 24.
The Epic Games Store gave away 99 free titles last year (up from 89 in 2021). These games had a combined worth of $2,240 and users claimed over 700 million free titles (down from 765 million in 2021), according to Epic.
The company recently suggested players should expect to see further high-profile Epic Games Store exclusives announced in the future.
Earlier today, developer Remedy Entertainment and publisher Epic Games announced that Alan Wake 2’s release date had been delayed by 10 days.
Previously scheduled to launch on October 17, the game will now be released on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via the Epic Games Store.
“October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games,” they said.
