Warning — Spoilers for Captain Marvel #38 ahead!
Carol Danvers has split in two and Binary, the new Captain Marvel, is not just a revamp of the character: she's also Marvel's answer to one of DC Comics' most popular heroines, Starfire. As extraterrestrial characters making a home on an unfamiliar Earth, both characters are remarkably similar in design and temperament. This isn't to say that Binary is a perfect carbon copy, however, as her adventures seem to be based more on introspection and self-reflection whereas Starfire often finds herself dealing with social dynamics and relationships.
The embodiment of Carol Danvers' cosmic power, Binary is no longer an alias assumed by Captain Marvel but has become an entity in her own right after the Last of the Marvels event. After her appearance in the battle against Vox Supreme, Binary has since settled down on Earth. Now, she is acting as Captain Marvel’s replacement in the New York hero community while Carol has mysteriously vanished.

We get our first glimpses into Binary's actual personality in Captain Marvel #37 and #38, by Kelly Thompson, Julius Ohta, Juan Frigeri, and Alvaro Lopez. Binary is portrayed as a newcomer to existence, almost childlike in her unfamiliarity with sensation and death, let alone human customs and culture. Her speech comes across as stilted due to her lack of contractions, and she is overwhelmed by simple sensations like good food, music, and dancing. Spider-Woman and Hazmat have taken her under their wing, helping her acclimate to her new life on Earth.
