The Mandalorian Producer Shares George Lucas' One Issue With Grogu

Dave Filoni reveals George Lucas' one issue with introducing Grogu in The Mandalorian. Star Wars' first live-action show also happens to be Disney+'s inaugural project. Created by Jon Favreau, it centers on its titular character Din Djarin — a bounty hunter whose life drastically changed after encountering a Force-sensitive creature from Jedi Master Yoda's species.

Since introducing the so-called «Child,» much of The Mandalorian's narrative thus far revolves around the pair's arc. Having developed a genuine concern for Grogu, Din has pretty much abandoned since bounty hunting life to be his caretaker. The initial goal was to reunite him with the Jedi after realizing that he's strong with the Force. That happened in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, but Lucasfilm eventually walked back on it in The Book of Boba Fett after Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) let the kid go to reunite with his father figure.

Now, Grogu is among the most popular characters in Star Wars, but before he was debuted in The Mandalorian, Lucas actually had one particular issue with him. As revealed in The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season Two) book (via The Direct), Filoni, who produces the show, talked to the franchise creator, who was specifically keen on ensuring that Grogu had ample training. Whether or not Lucas was referring to before he met Din is uncertain, but he was adamant that the show would somehow establish him to have some form of training. Read Filoni's quote below:

I had a talk with George, at one point, about the Child, and his main concern was that the kid has to have a proper amount of training.
