Total War: Warhammer 3 offers a variety of multiplayer game modes, from eight player campaigns to a Ranked ladder. While the long-form campaign is best played over multiple sessions, those seeking a competitive edge to the game will gravitate towards Ranked battles. However, it can be a daunting game mode to get into, and many players will be put off trying it due to the perceived learning curve.

The standard battle format of Total War: Warhammer 3 is Domination Mode. A new battle type, they provide multiple objectives to fight over, as well as introducing Reinforcing Armies.
Before queuing, you can Invite Friends or allow Team Merging, whereby your team can be filled by up to three other online players. You will then be matched against a player or players with a similar elo to your team. The system is certainly not perfect, and sometimes your matchups can swing from experienced veterans to wide-eyed first-timers. Your main goal when starting out is simply to learn, watch how certain units do, and see what strategies seem to be effective.
For non-ranked matches you can choose the Multiplayer Lobby option, and select fromDomination, Land and Survival battles.
