The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau explains how the Luke Skywalker cameo happened in season 2. TheStar Wars series first arrived on Disney+ in 2019 and was an instant hit with fans and critics alike. Season 1 introduced Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) as a bounty hunter who is tasked with retrieving a mysterious target. He soon realizes the bounty is a young child of immense power and decides to protect it. Season 1 focused on new characters and new locations in theStar Wars universe. However, season 2 began to introduce more characters from various media within the franchise.
Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), Boba Fett (Temura Morrison), Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) all made cameo appearances within The Mandalorian season 2 but were already established earlier in the vast franchise. Although Ahsoka proved to be a huge reveal as she was a massively popular character that originated within the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, season 2's biggest reveal occurred in the finale. Following Grogu's capture by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), Din Djarin along with a small team attempted a rescue. However, they were soon cornered by Imperial Dark Troopers. In heroic fashion, Luke Skywalker flies in with his X-Wing and decimates the robots just in time to save the heroes.
