One of Luke Skywalker's greatest enemies in Star Wars, the Dark Lady of the Sith Lumiya, is also his perfect foil on the dark side of the Force. Lumiya was introduced to the Star Wars Legends mythos in Marvel’s classic Star Wars comics, where she quickly rose to power following the Galactic Empire’s fragmentation at the end of Return of the Jedi. Just as Luke Skywalker created the New Jedi Order, Lumiya founded Lumiya’s Sith, the next generation of Dark Lords to fill the power vacuum left by Palpatine’s final demise.
Lumiya debuted as Shira Brie, a member of Rogue Squadron and romantic partner of Luke Skywalker’s for a time, but she was secretly a double agent under the command of Darth Vader himself. Shira Brie was thought dead after Luke accidentally shot down her starfighter (Luke was guided by the Force, which could detect her true allegiance), but she was instead critically injured. Shira’s dying form was recovered by Darth Vader, who rebuilt her as a cyborg, not unlike his own cybernetic resuscitation following his injuries on Mustafar.

Brie resurfaced as Lumiya in issue 88 of Star Wars (by Mary Jo Duffy and Bob McLeod) and her former name was revealed in issue 96 (by Mary Jo Duffy and Cynthia Martin). Less than a year after Darth Vader’s death and Palpatine’s first death, Lumiya became the Dark Lady of the Sith and the first of a new Sith Order that rose from the ashes of Darth Bane’s ancient Sith dynasty. Just as Luke founded the New Jedi Order following his ascension to Knighthood in Return of the Jedi, Lumiya was the Dark Lady of a new Sith Order, making her not just a nemesis to Skywalker, but his equivalent on the dark side.
