Fortnite dataminers discovered files within today’s version 21.10 update that seem to hint that Luke Skywalker — the whiney albeit heroic protagonist of the original Star Wars film trilogy — could soon come to Fortnite as an NPC. As spotted by FNBRintel, the latest update added a green lightsaber modeled after Luke’s that features the codename, “NPC.”
The consensus among dataminers seems to be that Luke will be added to the game as an NPC that you can either interact with, or fight if you feel like going toe-to-toe with a Jedi Master. It’s also believed that he will eventually be a playable character, much like many other heroes and villains from Star Wars are currently.
It’s unknown when the character will make his Fortnite debut, but both FNBRintel and notable Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR claimed that Luke could arrive in-game rather soon, given the stealthy addition of his lightsaber.
This news follows a 4chan rumor (via ShiinaBR) from last week that claimed the main three characters from the original Star Wars trilogy — Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia Organa — would arrive in Fortnite sometime this year or next. Luke’s lightsaber leak seems to add some credence to this rumor, but it’s worth noting that Epic has not officially announced any further Star Wars collaborations. However, it wouldn’t exactly be a surprise if there was at least one more.
Fortnite has been on something of a Star Wars kick lately. Following a Star Wars Day celebration event in May that saw lightsabers return to the battle royale, fan-favorite Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi was added as a playable character. Meanwhile, Luke’s father, Darth Vader, is both the headliner of Chapter 3, Season 3’s battle pass and an NPC located on the island.
