The latest episode of Screen Rant’s Pitch Meeting series travels to a galaxy far, far away with The Mandalorian. Disney+’s first live-action Star Wars series launched with the streaming service back in 2019. In the wake of Disney/Lucasfilm’s divisive sequel trilogy, which concluded the Skywalker saga, Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni’s The Mandalorian represented a spiritual revival of the franchise on the small screen.
Set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, the space western that is The Mandalorian follows Pedro Pascal as its titular bounty hunter, Din Djarin (aka «Mando»). After a high-paying bounty turns out to be Grogu (aka Baby Yoda), Din goes on the run to protect his new Force-sensitive surrogate child from Imperial remnants led by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). Following a handful of side quests and many chapters, Din delivers Grogu to Luke Skywalker himself in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, “Chapter 16: The Rescue.” In addition to the triumphant return of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker, The Mandalorian has featured the return of Boba Fett, as well as the first live-action appearances of previously animated characters from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson).
