The Last of Us Multiplayer, the untitled game that was recently reported to be "on ice", is still in the works. That's according to a Naughty Dog game director, who commented on the project after being bombarded with questions about the state of its development.
Vinit Agarwal, the game director for The Last of Us' "online project", as it's referred to in his bio, revealed that he's still working on the game via Twitter. He made this known in an unrelated post about his progress in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, writing, "And so this tweet can live on in peace… yes, I’m still working on that game."
The Last of Us Multiplayer, sometimes referred to as The Last of Us Factions 2, was meant to launch alongside The Last of Us Part 2, but was separated into its own game. However, we haven't heard much about its development since, other than reports from a month ago suggesting that work had been put on pause.
Agarwal's wording here might suggest that rather than being put on hold completely, development has instead just slowed down, albeit not enough to give the director nothing to work on. The only unreleased game in his bio is the online The Last of Us title, so that has to be what he's referring to. It's also something that fans are begging for scraps of information on, given that it's been more than three years since Part 2 launched.

However, this doesn't mean we should go expecting a bunch of The Last of Us Factions news anytime soon.
