The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie comes to cinemas and streaming in October
The long-announced Five Nights at Freddy’s movie will finally be released in October, according to production company Blumhouse.
The company’s CEO Jason Blum posted a message on Twitter today stating that the film would be released on October 27, to ensure a release in time for Halloween.
“As promised – FNAF fans, you asked and we delivered,” Blum tweeted.
“Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is coming this Halloween on October 27, 2023! 205 days until the party.”
Following Blum’s tweet, Variety then reported that Universal Pictures will be releasing the film in cinemas and on NBCUniversal streaming platform Peacock on the same day.
This will make it the third year in a row that a horror film will be released just before Halloween in cinemas and on Peacock simultaneously, following Halloween Kills in 2021 and Halloween Ends in 2022.
The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has experienced some turbulence on its journey to release. The rights to the movie were originally acquired by Warner Bros in 2015, who stated that Monster House director Gil Kenan was signed to direct the film.

Horror studio Blumhouse Productions then took over in 2017, shortly after series’ creator Scott Cawthon stated that the project was “back at square one”.
It was then confirmed in 2018 that Chris Columbus (Home Alone, the first two Harry Potter movies) was going to direct the film, until Blum stated in 2021 that Columbus was no longer attached to the project.
Finally, in October 2022, it was announced that the film would be directed by Emma Tammi, who most recently directed horror film The Wind.
