Lionsgate’s finally has a release date, and it’s getting a summer release not long after the 1994 version’s 30th anniversary.
The Crow remake release date has been set for June 7, 2024. The original was released in US theaters on May 11, 1994.
Starring Bill Skarsgard, the movie is an update of the 1994 cult classic that starred the late Brandon Lee, and also features FKA twigs (Honeyboy), Danny Huston (30 Days of Night), Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), and Jordan Bolger (The Woman King). It’s directed by Snow White and the Huntsman helmer Rupert Sanders.
The story of The Crow comes from the original graphic novel by James O’Barr. It sees a poetic guitarist, Eric Draven, brought back to life by a crow a year after he and his fiancée are murdered. The crow guides him through the land of the living, and leads him to his killers in a quest for vengeance from beyond the grave.
The original film was the last performance by Bruce Lee’s son Brandon Lee, after an accident on set tragically ended his life.
The Crow has been a favorite among comic book movie fans over the past few decades, and is still held up as one of the greatest early comic book adaptations. So the remake has a tough job on its hands if it wishes to be as revered.
Lionsgate acquired the rights to the remake in September 2023 in an eight-figure domestic deal.
