@AgentCooper Relatable, buddy. It’s probably a combination of a game disappointing you (FC6) and a game being so transcendent for you that other games feel empty (DE).
I definitely have felt many occurrences of the latter. Sometimes a game just clicks and feels so refreshing and engaging, and then when it ends it’s like all other games feel anti-climactic.
In these instances I’ve typically found success with smaller games, indies, and games that are so far removed from the usual fodder that it makes it harder for my subconscious mind to compare it to the epic game I just finished. But yeah, even then, sometimes it just doesn’t pan out.
@AgentCooper As others have said, variety is the spice of life an' all that, and not just on a game-by-game basis, either. There are days where you couldn't pay me to pick up a controller, even if I'm halfway through a really engaging and enjoyable game. Plus, it's real understandable if you're busy with other responsibilities. When you have to fight to make time for something, it's gotta feel worthwhile.
But ultimately, all tastes are subject to change. Maybe it's not enough for you anymore, for Ubisoft to paste a new story and setting over the same old same old. Have you played the entire Far Cry series before, and were you slightly less whelmed with Far Cry 5, I wonder?
Give yourself time. I've hit a couple of «Am I done with gaming?» moments before, but I always bounce back, so it's good to see you mention that you're looking forward to new games next year!
