A clip from The Batman shows the Riddler attacking a funeral and delivering a letter to the Caped Crusader in a suspenseful new video. Matt Reeves’ upcoming reboot will explore the early years of Robert Pattinson’s Batman, similar to Frank Miller's seminal comic Batman: Year One. Following the titlular hero as he earns the mantle of “World’s Greatest Detective,” The Batman will pit Bruce Wayne against iconic villains from his rogues’ gallery, including John Turturro's Carmine Falcone, Zoë Kravitz's Catwoman/Selina Kyle, and Colin Farrell’s Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot. The Batman’s main antagonist will be Paul Dano’s Edward Naston/The Riddler (Paul Dano).
In the gritty and grounded world of The Batman, the Riddler is a serial killer who prowls Gotham City, wrapping duct tape around his victims' heads and leaving clues for Batman. As seen in the film’s trailers, one of Riddler’s victims is mayor Don Mitchell Jr., who looks to be killed in his home and whose body found with “No More Lies” written on his face. The resulting funeral will be seen in The Batman and offer the Riddler another opportunity to wreak havoc on the people of Gotham.
