A few years after its failure, Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller reveals his brutally honest feelings about the sequel movie. The 2019 film served as the third attempt to revive the franchise after the future-set Terminator Salvation and the time-traveling Terminator: Genisys, both of which scored generally favorable reviews from critics but were modest box office successes. Terminator: Dark Fate acted as a direct sequel to Judgment Day, ignoring the events of the other films, as a new artificial intelligence called Legion has wiped out the future instead of Skynet and has sent back an advanced Terminator to kill a young woman vital to the fate of the future.
Linda Hamilton made her franchise return in Terminator: Dark Fate as Sarah Connor, haunted by the death of John Connor at the hands of a T-800 Terminator who has spent 25 years killing various Terminators sent by Skynet before their demise, as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger as a new T-800. The cast also included Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna and Diego Boneta. Written by David Goyer, Justin Rhodes, and Billy Ray on a story treatment from the former two as well as franchise creator James Cameron, Charles Eglee and Josh Friedman, Terminator: Dark Fate debuted to generally positive reviews but was a major box office failure, and now one of the creatives behind the sequel is sharing their thoughts on the film's reaction.
