Telltale Games has certainly been through the wringer in recent years, having been gutted and shuttered in 2018, before being reformed the following year thanks to the purchase of its remaining assets. In its renewed form, however, it seems the studio is once again going through a tough period.
The games industry has been hit by a wave of layoffs in recent weeks, with the likes of Epic Games, Creative Assembly, Team17, Naughty Dog, Crystal Dynamics, and others having been affected. Telltale Games’ name has also now been added to that list.
The same was confirmed in a statement recently published on the developer’s Twitter page.
“Due to current market conditions, we regrettable had to let some of our Telltale team go recently,” the developer wrote. “We did not take this action lightly, and our commitment to storytelling and finding new ways to do so remains the same. We are grateful to everyone for their dedication along this journey, and we are working to support everyone impacted.”
Telltale also says that the upcoming The Wolf Among Us 2 remains in production, though further details are elusive.
“All projects currently in development are still in production, and we have no further updates at this time,” Telltale Games wrote.
Earlier this year, Telltale announced that The Wolf Among Us 2 had been delayed to 2024, primarily due to the developer switching the game’s engine from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5.
Over the last few weeks, meanwhile, the studio has released all episodes of The Expanse – A Telltale Series, which was developed in collaboration with Deck Nine.
