Tekken 8's story mode and character episodes finally clear up what happened to Jun Kazama, after years of fans thinking that she died at the hands of Ogre in Tekken 3.
The Tekken series is one that's full of mysteries (is Heihachi really even dead this time around), but one of the biggest among fans is what happened to Jun Kazama, the mother of long-term protagonist Jin Kazama. Tekken 3 made it seem like Jun had been killed by Ogre (with some even thinking a decapitated head that he holds in a cutscene was here), but her appearance in Tekken 8 cast some doubt on that.
Tekken 8 finally gives us some concrete answers about what happened to Jun Kazama and what her fate was after the events of Tekken 3. She makes some appearances throughout the main story mode and appears in visions to Jin, but the concrete explanation comes from her Character Episode, which is unlocked after beating the campaign.
In the introduction of Jun's episode, it says that she faced "the mighty Ogre in Yakushima" and managed to narrowly escape being killed by fleeing to the Kazama Sanctuary. It then says that she later woke up from her "long nightmare", which seems to be how she's back in action for the events of Tekken 8. This finally confirms that she never actually died in Tekken 3, and was just hiding away.
That's not the only time where it's confirmed that Jun survived her encounter with Ogre, either. Not only does Jin say that he's going to see her again one day as the story ends, but she can be seen standing over Kazuya just before the credits roll after he gets defeated by Jin. This seems to imply that she's going to play a bigger role in the series later down the line, as she's clearly made it out of the Kazama Sanctuary.
“We never really said that she was killed, but a lot of people thought she died. One of the movies in Tekken 3 shows Ogre with someone’s head but it’s clearly not one particular character, it’s just designed to show him as a scary character."
Interestingly, Tekken 8
