Almost two weeks after announcing that it sold 2.7 million units, Bandai Namco’s Tales of Arise has reached over three million players. The action RPG launched in September 2021 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One and PC, and recently joined PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium and Game Pass.
Of course, there’s a difference between “players” and units sold. The higher player count may be due to those playing the game via Game Pass or PS Plus. Regardless, it’s still a significant milestone, especially with the bigger recent releases (Persona 3 Reload, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth) and future RPGs (Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Dragon’s Dogma 2).
For more details on Tales of Arise, check out our review. In November 2023, it received a paid expansion, Beyond the Dawn, adding a new story, dungeons, subquests and costumes. However, your skills from the base game don’t carry over, so you need to unlock them again.
Bandai Namco hasn’t said anything about the next mainline title. However, producer Yusuke Tomiwaza felt the team must “come up with a cutting-edge flagship title that builds on the success ofArise, while also providing an opportunity to rediscover the history of the series.” Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
