Taika Waititi Weighs In On Ms. Marvel After MCU Show's Review Bomb
After the show was hit with a review bomb from toxic fans, Taika Waititi is sharing his thoughts on Ms. Marvel. Waititi previously made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with Thor: Ragnarok, in which he directed and co-starred as the Kronan gladiator Korg, scoring rave reviews for reinventing the Chris Hemsworth character and infusing unique humor to the franchise. Waititi would reprise his role of Korg for Avengers: Endgame and is now gearing up to return for Thor: Love and Thunder this week.
Iman Vellani leads the Ms. Marvel cast as Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager obsessed with superheroes, namely Captain Marvel, who comes into possession of a magical bangle granting her the power to harness cosmic energy. Having premiered this past June, the MCU series has received largely favorable reviews from critics for Vellani's performance, its brighter tone and fast-paced direction, though has seen some backlash and review bombing from the toxic side of the MCU fanbase. While speaking with IndieWire ahead of Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika Waititi opened up about the MCU's recent representation efforts. The filmmaker directed his praise towards Ms. Marvel after the MCU show's review bomb, expressing his love for the show's exploration of its titular heroine's Muslim heritage.
