Celebrate five years of smashing with new spirits.
By Jason Fanelli on
December 7 is the fifth anniversary of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the massive platform fighting game which includes characters from and references to dozens of gaming's top franchises. Nintendo is marking the occasion with a special five-day Spirit Event starting today, as well as the addition of new Spirits beginning next month.
The spirit event runs until December 12, and it will offer five times the amount of EXP and SP (Spirit Points) and five extra Snack items for each battle.
Nintendo has also announced that new Spirits will be coming to the game through four new Spirit Events beginning in January. No information on the themes of the events or the Spirits being added were revealed.
A special «tag-team tournament» event will also be held, which will let players pair up with amiibo fighters they've trained. Dates for the tournament have not been announced, though Nintendo did announce a February 16 release date for the Sora Amiibo, which is the final release for the playable roster's Amiibo figures.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch. The game is also bundled with new Nintendo Switch OLED consoles for the holiday season.
